Sweeping Dusters
Old Dusters are still under collectors’ radar, I did some research and found this 1970 body, no rust, great condition, only two owners. My team dropped in a rebuilt 406-cubic-inch crate engine that puts out 435 hp and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. This is a really light car, so to have that much horsepower makes it really fast. We also beefed up the suspension so that it’s more stable and lowered the car to give it a better-looking stance. Then Chip Foose, who’s the hottest customizer right now, did some one-off wheels for it.

Man’s Best Friend
Mopars [old Chryslers, Dodges, and Plymouths] are selling high right now—everybody wants to do up a Barracuda or a Charger. When I was a kid, I always had Hot Wheels cars in my pockets, and I was a big fan of The Dukes of Hazzard, so the ’69 Charger was an icon for me. I have a ’69 and a ’72. My dog’s name is even Dodge.

Dear Ol’ Dad

My father-in-law, Mel Gibson, is welcome to drive my cars if he wants, but he hasn’t found the urge. We did take a motorcycle trip together from L.A. to Lake Tahoe one time. It was a pretty long ride…but we had fun.

Slow Learner
Within the first six months of having my license, I wrecked my car three times. But now I think that if I didn’t have a career in music, I would have pursued drag racing—I’m actually taking the car out to the strip this weekend.

Love Seat
People get fired up about old cars; they’ll talk your ear off. Once I overheated my ’50 Ford and had to call for a tow truck; an old guy saw me in the mall parking lot and told me about how he had one and modified the steering column so he could have more room to be with his girl on the front seat. I was kind of creeped out. He was way too old to be telling me that.
