Drugs lead to music which leads to drugs which lead to raves which lead to death which leads back to drugs and so on and so forth for about 20 years. Follow Factory Records’ Tom Wilson (Steve Coogan) through the history of the Manchester music scene from the mid-’70s to the early ’90s in this fictional account, then get the real skinny from the movie makers in the extras. Tom Wilson himself complains about the fake Tom Wilson character “taking the piss out of him,” while the rest of the crew gush about how great he was. There’s alternate versions of the film’s classic soundtrack in the deleted scenes, including “Blue Monday.” And commentary points out where the original musicians and their instruments make cameos for you music dorks trying to follow along at home.
