It’s time for Fatal Attraction: The College Years. The high schoolers got in on the action in Swim Fan, and here we have Abandon, with Katie Holmes trying to graduate while taking on any man who dares betray her.

Holmes stretches to play, um, Katie, the good student and popular kid just about to enter the real world. As if exams weren’t enough, her ex-boyfriend seems to be back after mysteriously disappearing two years ago. To add a little more grease to the fire, his case has been reopened for investigation, with Benjamin Bratt on the prowl after returning to the force as a recovering alcoholic—why this alcohol thing is part of the movie is beyond us. Zooey Deschanel steals Holmes’ thunder as the slutty chick who knows what frat boys want and is willing to give it to them—slinging one-liners all the while. Bratt still looks young enough to hit on college chicks and does exactly that, as Holmes bats her eyelashes and plays along. If spotting the ending weren’t so easy, this wouldn’t be so terrible—but the film banks on a surprise that’s given away too early to hold the suspense until the end.
