Barbershop undergoes a sex change as Queen Latifah shoehorns her three biggest assets (nope, none of them is acting) into this tame comedy about scissor-sistahs doing it for themselves. In search of her groove—or so we presume—loud and proud Gina (Latifah) quits her old salon in a huff and sets up (beauty) shop in the ghetto to bring some style to the streets. But things get hairy when her embittered former boss Jorge (Kevin Bacon, six degrees from relevance as a horrifying faux-gay Austrian hairdresser) wages a dirty campaign to put her out of business after she steals his two most loyal customers (Andie MacDowell and Mena Suvari). Unfortunately, not enough of the film wound up alongside the hair clippings on the cutting-room floor. Peppered with lame "black" jokes and lame white people with lamer accents (headed by Alicia Silverstone's ditzy hairdresser), this urban chick flick is like a visit to any hair salon: you're surrounded by yapping, you spend a lot of money, and you walk out looking and feeling like an idiot.
