There are tons of zany '80s body-switching moviesLike Father Like Son, Vice Versa, 18 Again!, Dream a Little Dream
We'll stop nowbut Big is the only good one. (No offense, Dudley Moore and Judge Reinhold.) Tom Hanks took his first step from that guy in Bachelor Party to real star as a 13-year-old whose wish to become an adult comes true. Unlike most actors who would have acted like a spastic retard rather than a kid, Hanks is perfect; this should have been his first Oscar. The "Extended Edition" adds around 20 minutes of unremarkable new footage, all of which is also included on the second disc as deleted scenes. Fox did a solid by including the original version, too, as well as a bunch of behind-the-scenes and retrospective featurettes. Unfortunately, Hanks isn't involved in any of them. Come on, Tom. This was your "big" break. Someone getting too "big" for his britches to remember a movie he made 20 years ago? Too busy collecting "big" paychecks and living in a "big" mansion? Are we jealous? "Big" time.
Also out on DVD: The two-disc director's cut of Hanks' surprisingly good music flick That Thing You Do! Just beware: That fucking song will be stuck in your head for days.
