There comes a time in every boy’s life when he needs to sack up, accept his responsibilities, and beat Kid Rock in a motorcycle race. As it were, Smoke (Larry Fishburne) is the undisputed, underground motorcycle “King of Cali,” while Kid (Derek Luke, Antwone Fisher—not to be confused with the one who Rocks) is climbing the ranks to grab the title. Chest-to-chest stand-offs, drag races, hot biker chicks, misspelled wordz—all the must-haves are here for an enjoyable tale about the modern-day urban cowboy. But then there’s Orlando Jones playing a moonlighting biker punk who spends his days as a lawyer—complete with a cheesy scene to remind us that not every biker boy can be judged by his wallet chains—and also a strange, teary-eyed family bonding tangent that muddles the second half’s action. Even forced appearances by Cosby cast-offs Kadeem Hardison and Lisa Bonet don’t add any originality to this unavoidable pile-up.
