Chicken Run

Release Date:

Chicken Run is for the birds—and that’s a good thing. The first full-length feature from Academy Award–winning animators Peter Lord and Nick Park, it’s a comic adventure about nervous chickens on the lam from their cruel masters. Carefully paced, expertly animated, and surprisingly adult, this is a cartoon that’s more eager to please grown-ups than the Pokemon set.

Chicken Run is an extended parody of the classic movie The Great Escape, with Mel Gibson lending his voice as a rooster charlatan who convinces a group of hens that they can fly to safety. Meanwhile, the evil farmers, who summarily chop the heads off of chickens if they don’t produce eggs, are planning to turn their coop into a pot pie factory. A dark and morbid adventure follows, complete with a number of brilliant action set-pieces that show off the eye popping, three-dimensional qualities of stop-action animation.
