As the James Bond franchise turns 40, director Lee Tamahori (Along Came the Spider) sticks to what got the British superagent this far: explosions, gorgeous girls, and gadgets, gadgets, gadgets. Wedge in some back-stabbing, double back-stabbing, and ass slapping whenever possible and the cash cow moos up a storm. Pierce Brosnan finagles his way into bed with two near-perfect women. Halle Berry proves that sometimes the second time around can be just as good as the first, if not better, with her on-screen entrance ripped directly from Ursula Andress’ 1962 turn in Dr. No—even wearing the same exact style of bikini. International espionage leads to ongoing fight scenes that morph into intricate chase scenes until you find yourself in the middle of a gizmo-and-car orgy. As for those rumors promising some first-time nudity in a Bond flick? Try another day.
