Long before Stanley Kubrick was known for stalling Tom Cruise's career and ruining Nicole Kidman's marriage, he wove Dr. Strangelove, the classic dark comedy about the hilarious theme of nuclear (pronounced "noo-kle-er") war. But the good times rolled to a complete stop when we found out the 40th Anniversary Special Edition only offered three new features. "Dr. Strangelove and the Nuclear Threat" interviews former secretary of defense Robert McNamara, former relevant movie critic Roger Ebert, and former relevant movie director Spike Lee to draw parallels between the jokes in the movie and the real problems inspiring them. "Best Sellers" profiles comedic genius Peter Sellers, who portrayed three characters in Strangelove, with a biography and career retrospective highlighted by praise from his peers. The last extra is a nap-inducing interview with McNamara that covers what he already thoroughly dissected in Fog of War. Besides a scrapbook that includes an essay by Ebert and production stills, the only other features here are leftovers from the last edition (released in 2001), leaving this disaster comedy with one disaster of a 40th birthday party.
