Dr. Joe Darrow (Kevin Costner) is being haunted by his wife’s ghost, who’s “becoming desperate” and sending creepy symbolic messages through half-dead youngsters. Is he crazy or is there something truly otherworldly after him? Who cares? With its soap opera delivery and ending, you’ll feel cheated anywhichway.

You can’t help but feel a little sorry for Kevin Costner, though. The man has made, like, 152 movies and is still known as Kevin “Dances With Wolves” Costner. Wolves was released in 1990. It’s 2002. Has anyone told him yet? Sure, sure, sure, there’re a bunch more of his films that have had that “critically acclaimed” noose draped around them, but, Kev, why would you ever agree to do some Sixth Sense/What Lies Beneath knock-off…thing? Did they tell you beforehand that the director on this is the same guy responsible for Patch Adams? Were you trying to compete with Richard Gere and his Mothman Prophecies? Since when has following Gere’s lead ever been a healthy career choice? Just stay home next time.

(Psst: Moviegoers should stay home this time.)
