This criminally overlooked movie did, surprisingly, snag itself an Oscar nomination this year (Best Adapted Screenplay), which, coupled with its arrival on DVD, should get it some much-deserved attention.
A comedy loaded with bone-dry wit, Ghost World is at least a must-see, if not a must-own. The supplemental material sometimes errs on the side of unexciting (the featurette is interesting and the interviews intelligent, but the deleted scenes dont really rock our worldexcept that theres a bit more of the mullet guy, and thats always a good thing). The funniest special feature is, by far, the uncut dance number from the bizarre Indian film Gumnaam. If youve ever wonder what would happen if the makers of the Adam West Batman TV show traveled to Bombay and recruited local special ed students for an elaborate dance number, wonder no more. Ghost World is a shining reminder that not all movies about teenage girls have to be insipid Britney Spears vehicles or illegal porn.
