There have been some great baseball movies—The Natural, Eight Men Out, Field of Dreams, Air Bud 4: Seventh Inning Fetch—but none can touch Bull Durham for pleasing both fans of the game and fans of good comedy. Even if you’ve never thrown a ball, you can find something to like about it. (You’d be a godless, souless communist bastard, but you’d find something to like.) With dialogue and sequences that withstand repeated viewings, this is the perfect movie to give some of that “Special Edition” love to.

Although not as exhaustively comprehensive as some discs out there, we appreciate what little there is to sort through. The highlight of the whole package is the Costner-Robbins commentary. Not only is it entertaining to hear their opinion of the film years later, but it’s also an impressive testament to Costner’s powers of recall. On more than one occasion, he even stuns Robbins with some of the details he’s able to remember (however, he mentions a few deleted scenes that, sadly, are not included on the disc). This is a classic sports film that needs to be in your collection.
