Wes Anderson (Bottle Rocket, Rushmore) consistently flies under the cultural radar, steadily amassing a small catalogue of quality films that, while pretty much ignored on a large scale, continue to cement his reputation with fans and critics. For those who missed his latest, The Royal Tenenbaums, when it was released last Christmas, this deluxe DVD package is a great second chance (even though the wealth of supplemental material is pretty much aimed at the already converted).

With each interview and clip (not to mention the movie itself), Anderson gives new meaning to the world “droll.” In overseeing the disc’s presentation, he’s able to supply a great deal of information while maintaining the particular look and feel of the movie. From his brother Eric’s sketches to the oddly hysterical “Peter Bradley Show,” there’s a lot to like here. Even Easter Egg hunters will have something to look for (hint: find the dalmatian mouse). Whether you’re giving The Royal Tenenbaums a first look or going back for more, this is the disc to grab.
