Tobey Maguire saddles up for his first Oscar run in this dramatic biography of the thoroughbred that captivated a nation during the Depression. A good cast—Maguire, Jeff Bridges, Chris Cooper—fights off the sap until the weepy homestretch. But while the flick couldn’t resist the hokey Hollywood horse chips, the extra material sticks to the script. Get personal with Bridges, whose on-set photo collection is accompanied by correlating audio from cast and crew. “Racing Through History” hits the track for archival photos and video of the horse in his prime, “Anatomy of a Movie Moment” gets technical for a scene with director Gary Ross, and “Bringing the Legend to Life” includes each of the 10 extra Seabiscuits used for filming. (You can say you knew them before they became dog food!)
