Bill Murray submits another serious attempt at an Oscar—not counting the infamous Caddyshack snub—in Sofia Coppola’s love letter to Tokyo. Jet lag ebbs and flows as the flick’s crawling pace battles Murray’s stone-faced, washed-up actor to a draw. But if the emotional journey stops short of a destination, a more direct route awaits you in the extras. “Lost on Location” starts with the crew’s kickoff party and wraps with shooting on the final day in Japan. Spike Jonze mans the hand-held and catches the Murray we wanted to see in the movie: dancing in a bathrobe, trash-talking in Japanese, and generally hamming it up with the locals. A brief collection of deleted scenes and a conversation with Murray and Coppola about how great it was to work together are the only other notable supplements on this travelogue turned Oscar sleeper.
