We never thought pitting Jack Black against a classroom of precocious brats could produce one of the funniest rock movies since Spinal Tap. (We also never thought a movie could be family-friendly without skimping on the laughs.) But here we are holding up our lighters for School of Rock. Ride securely on the Belushi-like shoulders of Black, and the sometimes dark humor of screenwriter and costar Mike White (Chuck & Buck), then flash a backstage pass to shred through a rockin’ Black commentary and a bunch of featurettes that’ll leave you begging for an encore. Before the house lights go up, the supporting cast (including Joan Cusack and—sigh—Sarah Silverman) and fist-pumping message (kids, stop listening to Britney and get the Led out!) will bring you back to a time when playing air guitar seemed like a viable career option.
