Back when Kevin Costner could carry an epic, the idea of watching him saunter through the three-hour Wyatt Earp might not have been so offensive, but these days, we’d rather ride through Baghdad hooded and pantless. Sadly, the special edition of the lengthy western can’t salvage the project, with only two extras on the second disc, both of which are 10 years old. A “vintage” 1994 TV special hosted by Tom Skerritt (speaking of outdated!) profiles the role of the epic in film history. The “new” behind-the-scenes featurette consists of interviews with the cast and crew on the set of the movie…when they were making it…11 years ago. There are also lifted scenes—but adding more footage to an already plodding three-hour-and-10-minute epic is like graciously offering additional nudes of Pam Anderson on the Internet.
