The big letdown after two classic X-Men movies doesn't sting as much on DVD. Still, with director Brett Ratner at the controls, we knew we were in for a shitty landing. There are some amazing moments but it all seems so slapped together and cheesy. (Basically, the exact opposite of the first two movies.) It focuses way too much on Storm, a group of club-kids armed with menial powers (porcupine man?), along with a pointless angel-winged nerd that made us cringe every time he showed up. When Wolverine is on screen he rules, as do a few others like Beast and Phoenix at her most destructive, but the final fight scene is more like a San Francisco rave as opposed to a battle for humankind. The extras are also pretty weak, with a commentary and some barely extended scenes and alternate endings that don't really add up to much. The one tip we can give is to wait until the credits are over for one final scene, which we didn't stick around for in the theater. What? We were in a bad mood and had to pee really, really bad.
