It's time for an intervention with director Michael Mann. He makes great looking movies but they're almost always way too damn long and boring. Miami Vice, made 20 years too late, has a few bursts of energy but it's nothing more than a really well-shot travel commercial. Running at an ass-numbing two-and-a-half-hours, this doesn't even manage to do what a typical episode did in 45 minutes. It barely has any action sequences (three tops), the story is a mess, the lead actress Li Gong is super hot but impossible to understand, and Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx look like they want nothing to do with any of this. The extras are somewhat interesting (more so than the film's plot) and we suppose the fact this didn't completely suck like most TV-to-movie adaptations is an achievement, but with TV shows like 24, The Unit and The Shield, Mann needs to up his game and shorten his running times if he ever wants us to sleep through another one of his movies.
