This has the look and feel of an epic '50s Hollywood tragedy. Too bad it's boring. In a tasteless ploy for quick cash, down-and-out detective Adrien Brody champions the apparent suicide of TV's Superman, whose life had completely hit the skids. The reason this movie has gotten attention is because Ben Affleck does a decent job playing George Reeves, a not-so-talented guy who got by on his looks as opposed to his talent. Sure, Affleck is good, but good in the same way Courtney Love is as a drug addict in The People vs. Larry Flynt. Not much of a stretch. The extras are also a letdown, especially since we were interested in finding out more about Reeves, but weren't given anything besides some typical behind-the-scenes stuff. It's a good effort. But if you're looking for a seedy Hollywood flick, check out L.A. Confidential or Auto Focus and save this one for cable.
