Showtime takes another successful stab at HBO with this impressively evil show about a forensic expert who's also a serial killer. Dexter, played with creepy realism by Michael C. Hall (Six Feet Under), takes antihero to new levels as he helps solve cases in Miami during the day then meticulously mutilates criminals who got away with murder at night. It's like a cross between CSI,The Punisher, and The Silence of the Lambs. There are even hints of Smallville during flashback sequences when his father is teaching Dexter how to control his urges. It has a few annoying story lines (shows like this and Sleeper Cell never seem to nail down the girlfriend part that well) and the voice-over puns are a bit too obvious at times, but we tore through these 12 episodes in a weekend like Dex tears through one of his Saran-wrapped victims.
