Vampires, again? Really? Haven't we had enough of these bastards already? At least the location in 30 Days of Night sets it apart. It's set in the northern most U.S. town at the top of Alaska, where they experience a month of no sunlight each year. (Hence the title.) Normally it's a very mellow time; but this year once the sun disappears out come the vampires, and the town people, led by Josh Hartnett, must fight. It's interesting and gory, but oddly dull. It takes a half hour for the movie to get off the ground, and once it does we felt like we were waiting it out like the characters just to see what happens. We never read the graphic novel on which the script is based, but we're sure it was livelier. The vampires are semi-creepy and move fast like the infected from 28 Days Later, but apart from the remote setting, no new bloodsucking ground is broken.
