The Skinny: John Hancock (Will Smith) is a guy who can do everything except remember who the hell he is. We're talking the ability to fly, super strength, impenetrable skin—the whole Superman package handicapped by the fact that he's a self-loathing alcoholic. A PR hack (Jason Bateman), though, makes it his mission to rehab the tainted hero's public image.
The Good: The trio of Smith, Bateman, and Charlize Theron are all solid, and Hancock has some genuinely funny moments. On Blu-Ray, the action is sharp and the effects seamlessly integrated. Hancock may have gotten swallowed up in the Iron Man/Dark Knight vortex, but it's worth another look.
The Bad: The movie loses its focus near the end, and the "extended" version adds only about 10 minutes of fairly inconsquential stuff.
Best Extra: The behind-the-scenes material is divided into chapters, the best ones are those focusing on Smith's involvement in the stunt sequences. Sure, he had some CG help, but the Fresh Prince did his fair share of cable-assisted flying.
Buy, Rent, or Ignore: It's not an essential must-have, but it's definitely worth the rental if you missed it the first time around.
