The Skinny: This iconic '70s cop thriller stars Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider as New York cops tracking a heroin deal from the beaches of Marseille to the street corners of Brooklyn. You probably remember it for the classic car-versus-elevated-train chase sequence.
The Good: This is one of those staple films you either have seen, or must lie and at least say you've seen, if you still want to claim to know shit about movies. Hackman's Popeye Doyle is tougher and grimier than bodega coffee, and his exploits have been given a Blu-Ray polish that, thankfully, does not remove an ounce of grit.
The Bad: You probably own The French Connection on DVD already. Don't care. See this.
Best Extra: There's a wealth of material on this DVD, but we're going to go with "Anatomy of a Chase," because it really is one of the movie's many high points. But, again, there's more than enough here to keep you picking your feet for hours.
