The Skinny: Frank Miller takes his Sin City palette (all three colors of it) and applies it to the classic Will Eisner creation, The Spirit. Gabriel Macht is the man behind the mask—an ex-cop resurrected as an unkillable force for good. He squares off against villains Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson.

The Good: Look, Blu-Ray's defining characteristic is that it looks better than anything else, so saying that The Spirit looks fantastic (and it does) is hardly news. But we think you know why we have to say that—we both know that this one is a campy mess from start to finish. So if crisp, clear views of Eva Mendes' ass is all we have to work with, then so be it.

The Bad: Make no mistake, this is definitely one of the bottom rungs on the comic book movie adaptation ladder. It's silly, nonsensical, and often just head-scratchingly wrong. Gabriel Macht is really the only one who makes it out with any dignity intact, but that's because he's also playing the dullest character.

Best Extra: You may click on "Green World" expecting to hear people droning on and on about green screen, but in fact you'll get some nice background info on Will Eisner—the guy who did The Spirit correctly.

Buy, Rent, or Ignore: It's an OK rental, so long as you know what you're in for.
