The Skinny: Mickey Rourke stars as washed-up former professional wrestler Randy "The Ram" Robinson (also Robin "The Deli Counter Guy" Radzinski), who is desperately trying to hang onto his career, reconnect with his daughter, and stay alive following a heart attack.
The Good: If you haven't seen The Wrestler than you've definitely heard about it, but don't let the hype dissuade you. This is a great movie. Rourke fits The Ram like a pair of skintight spandex, and director Darren Aronofsky keeps things grounded in grit, sadness, and pain. Not always a fun movie (though very funny in parts), but a good one through and through.
The Bad: The DVD package isn't terrible, but it feels lacking. There aren't a lot of extras, though the ones included do a decent job of presenting Aronofsky's technique and the tough development process this movie went though. But for a movie that was such an unexpected phenom, we can't help but expect a bigger double-dip on the horizon.
Best Extra: "Within the Ring" takes you inside the production, warts and all. And there are warts.
Buy, Rent, or Ignore: We highly recommend seeing this movie, but the disc's material can be absorbed in a rental.
