The Skinny: Based on a true events, Valkyrie stars Tom Cruise as Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, a German army officer with no love for the SS who heads-up a plot to assassinate Hitler and stage a coup. He, um, falls a bit short.

The Good: Upon second viewing, Valkyrie doesn't entirely shed its History Channel re-enactment feel, but it again delivers as a solid, pulse-quickening potboiler. Director Bryan Singer's impeccable taste in shots and set design really shine through on Blu-Ray as well.

The Bad: Although the final reel is tense and effective, the movie kind of takes a long time to get there and demands some patience you may or may not be willing to grant it. The DVD extras are fine, if nothing spectacular.

Best Extra: Movies like this demand documentaries covering their true life inspiration (which Valkyrie has), but we'll give the nod to the informative Singer/Cruise audio commentary. Worth a listen.

Buy, Rent, or Ignore: This is a definite rental, but make sure you keep it long enough to give the commentary a run through.
