Edmonton Oilers: Ten Greatest Games

Release Date:
Tuesday, November 4, 2008
Star Rating:
★★★★★
The Skinny: Gretzky. Messier. Kurri. Coffey. Fuhr. Lowe. To hockey fans, these are legendary names. Now relive the times when they all, incredibly, played on the same team. This 10-disc set celebrates some of the key moments in the the Edmonton Oilers franchise, from No. 99 leading them to their first Stanley Cup in 1984 to Fernando Pisani stunning the Carolina crowd in 2006.

The Good: This ain't some montage-heavy "greatest hits" package—these games are presented in their entirety. Marvel at the the old-school equipment, and relive a time when anything short of an on-ice piledriver was ignored by the more tolerant refs.

The Bad: If you are a fan of the Oilers or even just a fan of the game itself, there's nothing to dislike about this package. Solid. Hey, WB and NHL—how about reaching back into the vault and releasing The Boys on the Bus on DVD?

Best Extra: The discs don't really have anything to offer as far as special features, but don't get greedy. Hey, at least the games are broken into three-period chapters.

Buy, Rent, or Ignore: Hockey fans, this is a must have. Just in time for the holidays!
