In this ’50s B-movie spoof, David Arquette runs around trying to tame humongous mutant spiders while Kari Wuhrer bounces around by his side. The DVD provides a history of poorly made radioactive insect movies, with insightful nuggets you can’t get anywhere else, such as, “The Deadly Mantis told the story of a gigantic praying mantis thawed out by Arctic nuclear tests,” and the deleted scenes seem more like a screen test of Doug E. Doug monologues. “Larger Than Life” (the original short that inspired the movie) does the kitsch thing even better than the finished product—and in a quarter of the time.
