In the new movie The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (which will, sadly, be known for all time as "Heath Ledger's last movie"), the mysterious patriarch of a traveling group of actors (Christopher Plummer) must figure out how he's going to keep his daughter (Lily Cole) from the clutches of The Devil (Tom Waits) with whom he once made an ill-advised bargain. Meanwhile, a stranger with murky motives (Ledger) arrives to further stir the pot.
Parnassus is directed by ex-Monty Pythoner Terry Gilliam (Brazil, Time Bandits), who is as well known for his twisted imagination as he is for the terrible luck that seems to surround his movies. Prior to Parnassus and the loss of his leading man, he attempted to mount a Don Quixote film starring Johnny Depp that collapsed so spectacularly that it spawnd its own documentary film (Lost in La Mancha). So we were as surpised as anyone to see the man still maintains his sense of humor...
