At the risk of drawing the ire and incessant e-mail carpet bombing of Homersexuals the world over, weve always maintained that Family Guy was teetering pretty damn close to a Simpsons caliber of cram-packed comedy when it was summarily yanked off the air in 2000, after just two seasons. Now that all its 28 episodes are available in a single DVD set, we stand by that statement (lightning bolts be damned). Skip to any episode from either season and get ready for all the throwaway one-liners from a hard-boiled talking dog you can handle. Eight of the episodes feature commentary, with juicy tidbits like what Baby Stewie really says in the theme song, the lowdown on wife Lois nice cans, and the usual masturbatory laughter that accompanies a horde of overworked animation dorks surveying their own work. Finally, theres a behind-the-scenes look at the voice recording, animating, and script read-throughs, with plenty of the shows best clips sprinkled in for good measure. One of the interviews even includes a shot in which a Bart Simpson doll can be spotted proudly displayed in the office background. Sometimes, imitation is the sincerest form of hilarity.
