Another horror movie spoof is right up there with a Ya Ya Sisterhood sequel as far as things we need to see, but a straight-up scary movie like Final Destination 2 that can have a good time and still deliver gruesome decapitation after gruesome decapitation sits just fine with us. Final Destination 2 brings back the one remaining—and best looking—member from the first installment (Ali Larter) and a fresh batch of skeptical twenty-somethings to take on death. Kimberly Corman (A.J. Cook, The Virgin Suicides) is our tough, but winsome, heroine, and Officer Thomas Burke (made-for-TV’s Michael Landes) is the strapping buck at her side. After Corman has a deadly vision, it’s up to her and Burke to save a group of strangers from “Death’s plan” before it’s too late. Scary movie staples fill the time between death scenes, but that’s not the point: FD2 makes full use of its R-rating and finds new and highly entertaining ways to off each character while still smirking at itself.
