The Skinny: An average dude (Jason Segel) gets dumped by his famous girlfriend (Kristen Bell) and heads off to Hawaii to cry about it. Lo and behold, his ex and her new gothy rock star boyfriend (Russell Brand) are staying at the same resort. Lucky for him, a gorgeous hotel hostess (Mila Kunis) is there to ease his pain.
Judd Strikes Again: The Judd Apatow gang strikes comedy gold again and proves that out-of-shape nerdy guys can be leading men. Segel, who also wrote it, proves he can carry a movie just as well as Seth Rogen, and made us laugh our asses off.
Reminded Us Of… Knocked Up, Superbad, The 40-Yea… You get the idea.
The Good: We didn't think watching it on Blu-ray would make a difference, but it did. Since the bulk of it takes place in Hawaii it makes it a lot more colorful and bright… At least that's what we tell our girlfriends. The real reason: Bell and Kunis are two of the most beautiful women on the planet, and the stunning clarity will be the closest they ever get to our bedroom.
Stand-Out Performances: You've probably heard a ton about Brand as the typical British rocker, and he's good. But Billy Baldwin, who only gets a few random seconds as the David Caruso–like detective in Bell's fake show, stands out above the rest.
The Bad: We didn't mind the almost two-hour running time, or the fact that all the men are more feminine than the women. We actually find that kinda cool, and sadly, true. But we could have done without the multiple shots of Segel's dick. We thought it was funny in Knocked Up when he was outside of the house after the earthquake cupping it, but this was a bit too much.
Best Extra: A few people complained that Bell didn't get much of a chance to be funny, especially since we all know she's one of the coolest chicks on the planet. Well, you're in luck because a few of the deleted scenes have a ton more Bell, including one of the funniest scenes where she's stuck on a runaway horse. (It's not what you think.) The rest are just quick and fun featurettes that are also worth a peek.
Regular DVD, Too! Also available as a 3-Disc Unrated Special Edition DVD. You won't see Bell and Kunis as clearly, but it's better than nothing at all.
