Friday Night Lights: The First Season

First it was a great book, then a great movie, and now it's one of the best shows on network television. Is there anything football can't do? (Let's just hope they don't push their luck and make a Friday Night Lights: The Musical.) In the town of Dillon, Texas, high school football is a religion and the Panthers are one of the best in the state. But it comes with a huge price, as new coach Eric Taylor (played by Kyle Chandler as one of the most realistic coaches we've ever seen) is under constant pressure. Every decision he makes is dissected and second-guessed, his young players are under ungodly amounts of stress, and one loss puts the entire town into a catastrophic tailspin for a week. At times this show could easily veer off into soap opera land, but the acting is incredible, the characters are surprisingly complex, and the game footage is like a weekly dose of Rocky meets Remember the Titans. Plus, a host of stunningly cute actresses like Minka Kelly makes it even more of a must-see. We're thrilled NBC is keeping this somewhat low-rated show for a second season, because we're prepared to add it to the top of the DVR list. After you watch this first season, you'll be doing the same.
