The Skinny: Just in time for the pointless remake come the first three Friday the 13th movies (sadly, only Part 1 is available on standard and Blu-Ray) in brand new editions. The original gets an "Uncut" tag because roughly 12 seconds worth of (slightly gorier) footage (once available only as a DVD extra) have been edited back into the movie. Oh, and Part 3 is, indeed, in 3-D.

The Good: With all the other cinematic touchstones getting Blu-Ray make overs these days, it would be a shame if one of the most influential slasher flicks of all time didn't get the same love. It's probably been a while since you actually sat and watched the original straight through, and it's worth doing so. Nice new versions of 2 and 3 are welcome, too, because they mark the point just before the franchise went irredeemably goofy.

The Bad: True fans will notice that some of the special features from the 2004 Friday box set are not replicated, but the re-integrated new material kind of makes up for that. The only real thumbs down on the discs are the odd "Tales From Camp Blood" shorts that appear to have been made by your 12-year-old cousin.

Best Extra: "Fresh Cuts: New Tales from Friday the 13th" (which accompanies the first movie) is a great collection of anecdotes from all the major players. It'll give you more reason to ask yourself, "Why are they remaking this again?" The makers definitely got more right than they did wrong.

Buy, Rent, or Ignore: Horror fans can't call what they have a "collection" without it. The rest of you—hey, they're classics. Why not pick them up?
