Friends with Kids

Release Date:
Star Rating:
6 out of 10

Relationships: They’re complicated!

The Pitch: After seeing the toll children have taken on their friends’ relationships, two best friends (Adam Scott and Jennifer Westfeldt) decide to have a baby but keep things platonic.

What It Really Is: A long sitcom. It’s funny, but the formulaic romantic comedy only works because of the likeable cast. (Exception: Jon Hamm, in full-on dickish Don Draper mode.) The two stars, Scott and Westfeldt, are good, but the supporting characters fall into cliches. Hey Hollywood, not all married parents of small children are in a constant haze of anger and resentment. But when you’re hanging out with Maya Rudolph, Chris O’Dowd, Kristen Wiig and Jon Hamm, at least you’re guaranteed some laughs.

Warning: It might have scored half the cast, but this is not Bridesmaids 2: Electric Boogalo. In fact, it can get pretty dramatic. If you’re expecting an after-the-credits scene with Melissa McCarthy and Air Marshall Jon reading to some toddlers, you will be sorely disappointed. Ready-Made Press Blurb: “Bring your friends, bring your kids to this witty delight!” -

Who’s It For: Ladies in love with Adam Scott, foul-mouthed parents, old friends who happen to have a baby together and may or may not be secretly into each other

Studio: Red Granite Pictures
