In Steven Soderbergh’s overhyped, underbudgeted Full Frontal, the director tries to have a good time with Hollywood stereotypes. And he’s all alone. His quirky characters attract more attention to the fact that they’re high-profile actors in a shitty movie than they do to the fact that they’re mocking themselves. So it’s no surprise that Soderbergh and company further annoy in the DVD extras. The deleted scenes just bring back painful memories from the movie, the “hidden spy cam” doesn’t catch anybody off guard (where’s the Julia Roberts up-the-skirt shot?), and checking out the interviews with the cast members in character is like watching an acting exercise. And then there’s Soderbergh getting his own two arrogant cents in with “Conversation With Steven Soderbergh”—endless sound bites of the director discussing the unique atmosphere he helped create on the set. We’re saying no to Full Frontal. Hey, there’s a first time for everything.
