Fun With Dick and Jane

There’s the "wanna be taken seriously" Jim Carrey of The Truman Show, The Majestic, and Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, and the go-for-broke comic genius Carrey of Ace Ventura, Liar, Liar, and The Mask. Since he's got the same shot at an Oscar as Verne Troyer, it's nice to see funny Jim back in theaters. It's lowbrow fun and Fun With Dick And Jane just about nails it. As a screwed-over exec of an Enron-style company, Carrey’s Dick is someone whose upper crust lifestyle is unexpectedly destroyed, forcing him into knocking off convenience stores with his wife (Téa Leoni) just to stay afloat. Based on a minor 1977 Jane Fonda comedy of the same title, the premise fits today’s environment of corporate greed even better than the post-Watergate era that inspired the original, with it’s ultimate turn-the-tables twist providing a far more satisfying conclusion for these troubled times. With such heavy-handed, over-hyped dreary ordeals as The New World and Munich for competition, we could use a few good laughs, which is exactly why there really is a surprising amount of Fun to be had with this Dick And Jane.
