Matt Groening struck lightning twice when Futurama became a success, and it paid off for all of us. Now hes put out its first season on DVD and has us chomping at the bit for more. Many of the 13 episodes are enhanced by an assortment of worthy features and all of them include commentary. Get a thorough look at the animation process with the main featurette (aptly titled Featurette) and marvel at the attention to detail necessary just to make something as simple as background images. Viewing stills from the pilot-episode script (complete with editors notes) is not only edifying, but also guilt-provoking when you discover how hard these guys worked just to make you laugh. There are also storyboards with notes that take you step-by-step through the development stages. If youre still itching for more, you can get plenty of insight from the commentaryas well as plenty of self-congratulatory laughter throughout each episode to boot.
