The Toho Company, obviously still bitter about the American remake in which their beloved creature went head-to-head with Ferris Bueller, relaunches their rubber-suited badass for the new millennium with Godzilla 2000. The resulting movie is badly dubbed, cheesy as hell, and ridiculously funny. Which is, of course, exactly what you want from a Godzilla movie.
While the American version was all CGI emptiness, Godzilla 2000 shows that not even state-of-the-art technology can taint a campy good time. You cant take Godzilla seriously, and the action has to be played out with tongues firmly in cheek. (Theres even a bit in the beginning that winks at Roland Emmerichs debacle). Hardcore Godzilla fans will no doubt rush out to see this return to form. Others might not be into itat least until it shows up on Sunday morning sandwiched between Godzilla vs. Monster Zero and Mothra.
