Good Luck Chuck

Charlie Logan (Dane Cook) is really "Bad Luck Chuck," a guy who sleeps with any and seemingly every woman after a childhood curse makes him the last good lay a chick has before finding her soul mate. In other words, he's destined to become a legendary sex machine that can't seem to have any kind of meaningful relationship. Hmmmm, doesn't sound that bad to us! Enter penguin wrangler Jessica Alba, a gorgeous but klutzy animal lover, who quickly becomes the object of his affection. But he fears that she too will dump him for the next guy in line if they actually do the nasty. Much of the comedy is based around his attempted chastity around Alba, and conversely his prowess with everyone else in a dress, including the obligatory overweight honeys trying to get in his pants. With tons of gross-out humor, Good Luck Chuck nails a decent joke occasionally, but too often strains for laughs. Cook is fun; but unfortunately he's the one in constant states of undress, while Alba sadly remains clothed throughout. In addition to that bummer, Alba tries out her skills as a comedienne, which means falling flat on her face a few times. Still, she's nice to look at, even if she fails the comic timing so crucial to these types of films. Dan Fogler (Balls of Fury) is around to be outrageously funny as Charlie's advice-giving best friend, but his bits are way over the top. Superbad and Knocked Up got the delicate balance just right for this kind of raunchfest. Chuck apparently didn't get the memo.
