Assuming youve all read the February issue of Maxim, you know which side of the fence we stand when it comes to the pot wars (if you havent read it, shame on you. Read it now), which makes us the perfect audience for the documentary Grass. Narrated by celeb-stoner Woody Harrelson, it collects old movie clips (including the infamous Reefer Madness), propaganda posters, and newsreel footage in an effort to show the governments ridiculous and utterly pointless war against marijuana. What makes director Ron Manns job so easy is that he doesnt need to cram a lot of facts and figures down your throatthe absurdity of the governments views (like, pot makes people insane killers, rapists, and, um, heroin addicts?) speaks for itself. Theres almost no need to pose a refuting arguement, since the thought of a pothead gathering the energy to beat someone to death with a fireplace poker is completely laughable to anyone whos ever been around actual stoners. Indeed, even if youve never toked, youll find Grass an amusing and entertaining look at how a few uptight people can spoil the fun for everyone. Except the editors at Maxim. And Woody.
