There’s not much here to warrant the “Special Edition” tag, but who cares when a movie is this funny and rewatchable? Groundhog Day is one of those “funnier than it should have been” movies that reminds you once again why Bill Murray rules. So, even though this DVD pretty much sells itself, a few aspects of the special features are worth mentioning. Director Harold Ramis delivers a sometimes-flaccid commentary (“He’s a good actor” is one of his verbal aces), but he sneaks in enough tidbits to keep it interesting. And the Weight of Time featurette shows you just how mutated a movie can get from original script to finished film, plus, it includes some great Murray outtakes scattered within. Hell, we even like the flashing “5:59/6:00” icon on the animated menus. Like we said, this one’s an easy purchase, plain and simple.
