The show that almost everyone watched at least once while he was sick as a child, or high as an adult, is finally on DVD. The moment that familiar theme song starts cranking you know you're in tropical heaven. Jack Lord solidified himself as one of the greatest TV cops Det. Steve McGarrett, a Shatner-like thespian who heads up an elite branch of the Aloha State's police. Plus, his hair never moved unless he ordered it to. That's power! The show is a lot more fun and trippy than we remembered. And Paramount really did it up right by not only including a documentary about the show-something very rare since DVD sets for other classics like Mission: Impossible and The A-Team were bare-but also the two-hour pilot ("Cocoon") along with the 23 episodes from the 1968 season. It went on to run for an additional 11 seasons, and like all shows in the '70s featured many familiar faces that went on to become big stars, including Fantasy Island's Ricardo Montalban, The Love Boat's Gavin MacLeod, The Naked Gun's Leslie Nielsen, and that annoying guy who won't shut up about Republicans Martin Sheen. Granted, they're not all on this season, but when was the last time you heard anyone else mention Gavin MacLeod's name. (Aside from your girlfriend while having sex.) Buy it, Danno!
