Before basketball was about dunks, cornrows, and high schoolers playing pro ball, it was about jump shots, crew cuts, and high schoolers playing high school ball. Honoring this was Hoosiers, an underdog story that can make the most cynical sports fan misty-eyed, and now the collector's edition heads back to the gym to honor the best basketball movie ever made. The commentary track with director David Anspaugh and writer Angelo Pizzo provides the usual details on location scouting, cut scenes, and true stories behind the adapted characters. The real story that inspired the movie is then put under full-court press in "Hoosier History." NBA vets (Indiana Pacers guard Reggie Miller) and college coaching legends (Purdue's Gene Keady) join the cast and crew to talk about the movie's staying power, while players from the 1954 Indiana State High School Championship team dish details on winning against such long odds. But the real treat for hoop junkies is the 1954 IHSAA Championship Game in its entiretybelieved to be the last piece of filmed basketball action that doesn't somehow include LeBron James.
