Director Eli Roth's tribute to slashing, maiming, and fucking is heavy on the blood and breasts and light on just about everything else. A goofy behind-the-scenes set diffuses the violence, and includes lighthearted visits to the makeup trailer with a one-eyed girl and a giggly propmaster running through the flick's prospective torture devices. A group commentary track with Roth and Quentin Tarantino makes for an interesting soundtrack for the grisly movie; they exchange stories about auditioning the perfect topless cast members and struggle to stifle guffaws during the film's many lost digits and severed limbs. Jason and Freddy would be proud.
