Will Smith is trying to save the world againdoesn't he have kids to raise or something?and this time, the bad boy for life is taking on his toughest foe: the household appliance. I, Robot pits Smith against an army of raging machines in a stylish sci-fi adventure that packs enough action-flick staplessmart-ass zingers, dazzling effects, killer robotsto satisfy your rental needs. Unfortunately, the extras are so lame you might as well take it home on Beta. Commentary by director Alex Proyas and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman is nothing more than two grown men nerding out over Isaac Asimov's laws of robot culture. The 10-minute making-of would have trouble cracking HBO6's late-night filler lineup, and a small gallery of robot sketches is all you get on the title character. Don't get us wrong, it's good to see Will Smith delivering a capable summer blockbuster again; it's just too bad it had to come on a DVD with less rewatch value than Wild, Wild West.
