Suppose you were in this pitch meeting at Paramount: "Hey, Al Gore goes around the country delivering an environmental slide show lecture. Whaddaya say we film it and release it as a major summer movie?" As incredible as it sounds, that's exactly what these enterprising filmmakers have done—and against all odds, they've delivered not only a compelling movie, but also one that will be regarded as a wake-up call around the world. Simply put, it's a documentary version of Gore's traveling slide show detailing the effects and imminent dangers of the global warming crisis. Actually, it's not just a doc—it's really a horror film, more frightening than the last three Sarah Michelle Gellar movies put together. Introducing himself as "the former next president of the United States," this two-term VP lays out the facts on what he considers the greatest worldwide threat of our lifetime, detailing earth's impending date with death—unless something is done to stop the current course of Mother Nature. Backing up its assertions with photographic evidence from Antarctica to Peru to New York City, An Inconvenient Truth paints as bleak a picture of the future as any ever seen. Criticizing the Washington, D.C. bureaucrats, the oil companies, and the American auto industry who all want to put the issue on the back burner, Gore effectively gets his urgent message across in this important—and oddly entertaining—film. Recommended only for those who think they have a future.
