Jet Li's Fearless (as opposed to Tommy Lee's Fearless, just so no one is confused) shows the action star's absolutely astounding command of his unique talents. If this really is Jet Li's final martial arts film as the marketing materials claim, he's going out on top. Visually stunning with brilliantly executed fight sequences, Fearless grabs you with its epic scope and richly human story. Li, in fact, states that this is his most personal and important martial arts movieone that captures the essence of his beliefs and philosophies he has learned over the past 30 years. Li, as the most famous fighter in China in the early 1900s, must fight his way past personal tragedy and triumph towards an unforgettable last match that not only has his own honor on the line, but his country's as well. Exceptionally choreographed fight scenes highlight this well-written and acted tale that contains an unusually large dose of humanity, generally missing in this genre. Li clearly has an affinity for this kind of material, and he gives his all even though exactly why he is hanging up his belt isn't made clear. In the film's final act, he delivers exactly what his audience hopes for, so it doesn't really matter. His final "battle" is guaranteed to make you sweat
and thank Li for the memories.
