The Skinny: L.A. Confidential is the film that put Russell Crowe on the map. It's a glossy and gritty slice of West Coast noir, featuring cops, hookers, tabloid journalists, and stand-out performances from Crowe, Guy Pearce, Kevin Spacey, Kim Basinger, James Cromwell, Danny DeVito…hell, everyone in the fucking cast.

The Good: It's official—Blu-ray can even make a movie that's mostly shades of tan and gray look amazing. The smoky bars and sun-bleached streets of 1940s Tinseltown have never looked better, so the movie finally has the knockout visuals to go along with the top-notch script and performances.

The Bad: You probably already own L.A. Confidential. It's hard to justify a double dip, unless you really want the best visual presentation of the movie you'll ever see.

Best Extra: "A True Ensemble: The Cast of L.A. Confidential" focuses on, in retrospect, is the film's absolute strong point—the cast. It's also fun to recall a time when people were like "Russell who? Is he related to Sheryl Crow?"

Isn't That…?: Buried under the all-star cast is, yep, The Mentalist's Simon Baker as the ill-fated bisexual wannabe actor Kevin Spacey's Jack Vincennes discovers ventilated on the floor of a seedy motel room.
